Culture of Sternbergopolis
Sternbergopolis is home to unique and diverse culture from sea to sea and back. This page provides a brief overview of the different main cultures and their subcultures that exist in different regions of the nation.
The Far Northeast: Marine Heaven & Our Roots
In the Far Northeast, usually considered Nickelford, East Nickelford, and sometimes Griswold, a nautical-based culture thrives. Fishing-related professions are common in the area, and crucial to the economy of Sternbergopolis. It is also home to one of the top five largest coast guard bases in Sternbergopolis, along with the second largest naval port in the country on the banks of Chamber Bay.
As for specific cultural differences with the rest of the country, the large majority of Sternbergopolis's ethnic natives is here. Though no longer recognised as an official language by the Federal Government as of 1 January 2012, Maylin is still spoken as a first language in many native towns and communities that haven't been significantly influenced by Sternbergopolis's "New Wave Prosperity" in recent generations. The reason for this is that most of the region was part of the Republic of Nickelford, the last remaining sovereign nation to exist on Planet May before falling to Sternbergopolis in 2005. You can learn more about Maylin, it's culture, and its speakers in the "Language" section.
Entertainment is heavily influenced by the ocean and other waterways, several even freshwater, with several annual fishing competitions, one even for the rainbow trout, which has been claimed as the national fish of Sternbergopolis in 2009. These events are often televised regionally, and sometimes even nationally. Some of the nation's largest ships and boats are here, along with some of the most luxurious cruises making this one of their destinations. Celebrities even make a point to seasonally visit in their yachts. Seasonally, of course, because the climate is frigid in the winter months, which often affects the clothing, transportation, and even housing choices of many people in the region.

The Mid-East: Big Cities & Big Business
The provinces of the Mid-East run down the East Coast and slightly inland. Magictopia, Parkerbury, Persyton, Orealasis, Big Bar, and sometimes part of New Country are considered the provinces of the Mid-East. The Mid-East is by far the most commercially and possibly economically important region of the country, as it is home to much innovation, and the majority of the nation's urban centers and attractions. The capital and largest city of Sternbergopolis, Persyton, is situated on the East Coast, partly on the small Vortex Peninsula. It is home to both urban centers and inter-city agricultural centers, which is part of the reason it accounts for about 10% of Sternbergopolis's Gross Deomestic Product (GDP), making it the smallest province (Special Administrative District, in this case), but most productive. It the largest city in terms of both land area and population, so it is also home to the most economic consumption. Most companies in Sternbergopolis are housed here; in fact, the government is, too! Other cities in the region include Raspberry Creek, Palm Tree, Racamada Springs, Sissyfield, Ranfe City, Oliver Lake, and others.
The culture of this region is high tech, high end, and highly competitive. There is constant innovation, constant change, and constant expansion, which is the inspiration for the official slogan of Persyton. The area is home to prime real estate, and many come to the region to start a new business and/or a new life. Despite the high population, there is very little crowding, much land, and even some farms. As the entertainment capital of Sternbergopolis, most television and theatrical productions are made in the area, and most ties to the music industry are here. Because of this, there is much diversity in the area, and everybody wants a piece of the pie. Orealasis is home to the largest Latino population in Sternbergopolis, with the Latino capital of Sternbergopolis being in Ranfe City. Spanish-speaking television channels and music are present in the region. There is also coastal involvement, with beautiful coastline seascapes and luxurious resorts. As previously stated, most large corporations are housed in the region, and much of the workforce works in competition with each other.
Most of the government and political offices are in the region as well, including the Federal Government headquarters, which are in the Western half of Bonza National Park in Peryston. There is much diversity in terms of income, as many celebrities live in the outskirts of Persyton, or in the city itself, while many average, middle class families live in the suburbs or apartments or condos in the city. This causes an interesting clash of personalities and ideals, and provides for the perfect combination for an economic powerhouse.

The South: Paradise with Background
The second largest area for Sternbergopolis's economy is the South, which traditionally includes Chamber, Kapatwong Island, Vaclear, Edison, and South Edison. This region, home to some of the most beautiful weather and coast in the nation, is dominated by tourists. Wepost and Kapatwong City, the second and third largest cities in Sternbergopolis, respectively, are known for their luxurious resorts and spas that span the coastline. Over the years, many tourists have loved the region so much they've made it their home.
The culture of the Sternbergopolan South is characterised by the overall welcoming feeling, as well as the general casualness of the environment. It is quite common to see people run everyday errands in their swimwear, which is usually unacceptable in most parts of the country. Hospitality in the region has been said by many to be the best in the country.
In Kapatwong and other coastal areas, there is a great deal of native island culture, which stems from the native peoples that lived thousands of years ago. There is much traditional music in the area and many festivities are always being performed here. In other areas, there are many tourist attractions and businesses that tie in these customs with that of the neighbouring Central and Mid-East cultures, especially that of the nearby mountainous and forest-filled areas. Many ancient holidays and festivals are still recognised by locals today. This combination in the area makes for some of the richest traditional culture that still exists in the modern-day.

Central Sternbergopolis: Farmland, Heartland, & Funland
Crucial to agriculture and resources, the center of Sternbergopolis is the nation's economic backbone. Comprising of Beth, West Beth, Cumulus, and the inner portions of several other provinces, Central Sternbergopolis consists mostly of inner farmland and the scenic west coast. Many believe that since the majority of the area is agricultural, there is very little cultural involvement in the region. However, many are unaware that the area has deep historical value, as some of the first expanding settlers after the arrival of outsiders in the East in the 1400s headed here to start new civilisations and a new life.
Once a very poor and poverty-stricken area, Central Sternbergopolis has gained momentum, respect, and prosperity over the years. Accounting for nearly three-quarters of crop and dairy farms, agriculture has even played a part in enriching the region's culture. Seasonal festivals celebrating crop growth stem off of native traditions. In fact, the much celebrated Harvest Day, which is now a national holiday, originated in West Beth. It is one of the many now-extinct harvest celebratation traditions of its kind.
Farming isn't all, however. Because of the excess of land and increasing acknowledgement by the national community, the area has seen large population growth over the past 20 years. The area is now home to a number of tourist destinations, including some of the nation's largest amusement parks, which have gained much recent media attention. The area has become Sternbergopolis's fastest growing, and this is reflected in the rapid change and expansion in everything from infrastructure to education. These are new traditions for the land that was once solely designated as the "corn capital."

The Northwest: Mountains, Marvels, & More
Perhaps one of the biggest hidden gems in Sternbergopolis is the far north and northwest region. Home to the world-renowned Pixeana Mountains, some of the lands most crystal-clear waterways, and the pits of the northernmost tundra, it is often difficult to define the Northwest as a single region. Comprised of Idemedesa, East Idemedesa, and Seenetro, it is perhaps the most internally diverse culture within one geographic region of Sternbergopolis.
One may notice several differences in general life in the Northwest. The rugged terrain often forces people to drive heavy duty vehicles, and because of the many varying ethnic groups clashing with modern settlers, there are even differences in the way people dress and speak.
Forced to adapt to the harsh conditions in the far north, the people inhabiting the Pixeana Mountains region are some of the most unique natives in the world. Many old tales and superstitious stories in today's society come from the religious teachings of the Pixeana people. Today this region remains one of the most undisturbed by modernisation.
In the far west, home to Puzzle Point, the fourth largest city in Sternbergopolis, there is a large contrast to the tundra-covered mountain range. Though cold in the winters, Puzzle Point and Idemedesa are hot seasonal visitor's spots. Considered by many to be geographically cut-off and isolated from the rest of Sternbergopolis by the treacherous mountains, barren tundra, and bodies of water, it amazes people that a region nearly as advanced and industrialised as the bustling east could exist on the other side of the country among all the natural barriers. Because it is so isolated, there is not as much influence from the east as other regions of the country, making the far west one of the most unique cultures in the land.
